Iconic Cricket Photos — Part 1
“A picture is worth a thousand words”, and a million other adage’s have said the same thing.
As a kid, the images attached to the headline of specific sporting news has always been etched in memory. Here, I have collected many pictures which I consider to be iconic to the world of Cricket. Here we go!
The innings which changed the direction of cricket —
Kapil Dev (175)
According to Sunil Gavaskar, this is the knock that changed not only Indian Cricket but World Cricket altogether!
The Wounded and Sick Marathon Men of India —
Dravid and Laxman at Kolkata 2001
Laxman was suffering from a dodgy back throughout this Test, while Dravid had a bout of Fever but none of these elements could stop them from scoring 281 and 180 respectively.
The Chase of a lifetime at the Home of Cricket —
Natwest Series Final, 2002
Laxman’s attempts at preventing his captain from going topless were in Vain and thus gave rise to this iconic image in Indian Cricket. India managed to chase down a mammoth 326 with a young Indian team at Lord’s.
Sport can be cruel —
Andrew Flintoff and Brett Lee, Edgbaston 2005
The 2005 Ashes was the first time I experienced this age-old rivalry. The Edgbaston Test was one of those few instances where England managed to get the better of Australia in close encounters.
Ball of the century —
Shane Warne to Andrew Strauss, Edgbaston 2005
Edgbaston 2005 had another special event, Shane Warne at his peak. This ball turned 2 feet!!! and I am sure no one could’ve played this ball.
Dhoni finishes off in style! —
Dhoni wins it for India, Mumbai 2011
MS Dhoni’s bat twirl and Ravi Shastri’s excitement provided the perfect concoction for the emotion of a billion Indians. An unforgettable moment!
The Last Walk of a champion —
Sachin Tendulkar, Mumbai 2013
An emotional moment for all Indian cricket fans when Sachin Tendulkar decided to hang up his boots in 2013 at the Wankhede. The scenes of him walking up to the crease to take guard for one last time is still special to this day.
This is part 1 of this series. I will be adding more and include other sports as well in the future!
